A SUMMARIZED REPORT ON AFRIGROWTH FOUNDATION VISIT TO
ORPHAN AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN CARE (OVC) IN KARSHI

As the prevalence ratio of HIV/AIDS is increased in Federal Capital Territory, the emergence of Orphans and Vulnerable Children poses a threat to communities; resulting from the death of their parents.

Poverty, Stigma and rejection combine to increase the plight and suffering to Orphans and Vulnerable Children.

On this note AfriGrowth Foundation initiated a programme to support orphan and Vulnerable Children in Federal Capital Territory and nationally by conducting visits to communities where these children reside. One of such Communities is Karshi. The visit is aimed at conducting an assessment of the needs of these children and to distribute food items and other materials to them.

Officers of AfriGrowth Educational paid a visit to the children of Karshi on the 26th of July 2006. This visit was in collaboration with Rural Youth Advocacy Network (RYAN), a local NGO in Karshi, the founder Mr. Adams Peter in his speech expressed his appreciation to every one for honouring the occasion and also thanked AfriGrowth Foundation for their good works.

The founder AfriGrowth Foundation Mrs. Dayo Keshi, gave her speech on “the vision of the orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) programme” which is to focus, on, under privileged children, whose parents are either dead or too poor to send them to school or generally take care of them. She advised the children to be determined and learn, that many Nigerians in positions, were once like them, but, they made it by determination and hard work. They should also be of good behaviour and “reciprocate to other less privileged children when they grow up”. She said. Furthermore, she charged all Nigerians in positions to join hands and support this programme in empowering Nigerian children for the future. She ended her speech by introducing the chief sponsor of the programme, Dr. Rex Ajayi and the guests.

Thereafter, a remark was made by the serkin Karshi on behalf of the children and the community. He said, he is overwhelmed, for his community to be the privileged beneficiary of AfriGrowth Foundation Orphan and vulnerable children programme. He expressed gratitude for the good works they have done in his community that God should strengthened them to continue. He ended his speech by advising the children, to discountenance the demise or financial status of their parents, and use that “as a stepping stone to achieve greatness. “There is hope for the hopeless”. He concluded.

Next, were remarks from the guests thanking and expressing their appreciation to Mrs. Dayo Keshi, for the initiative to helping the less privileged. They expressed willingness to collaborate with AfriGrowth Foundation in future programmes.

This was followed by presentation of gift packs by Dr. and Mrs. Rex Ajayi to all the children.
