AFRIGROWTH FOUNDATION ESSAY AWARD CEREMONY
(July 17th 2009) “Mentoring is key towards attaining development
in Nigeria and should permeate every facet of our society”.
Mrs. Dayo Keshi, President and Founder AfriGrowth Foundation
First Prize Winner - Faleye Funmilayo Janet bagged a laptop
and N50, 000 cash,
Second prize Winner - Obajeun Jonah Ayodele won an ipod and
N35, 000 cash prize
Third prize Winner - Shedrach Ojeka Ona won a DVD and N15,
000 cash prize
The Essay Award ceremony took place in Abuja on 17th July 2009 under
the chairmanship of Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi Honourable
Minster of Youth Development, who informed that the Ministry
of Youth Development is laying a solid Foundation to build
structures for Youth development in Nigeria and mentoring is one of
such structures.
In 2006 AfriGrowth Foundation launched its Youth Mentoring program
and over a hundred Youths have benefited from this program. In order
to sustain the mentoring process, the Foundation on 1st April 2009
announced the second edition of the annual National Essay
Competition entitled “Mentoring; A Panacea for Sustainable Growth
and Development” it was for Youths between the ages of 18-25
yrs.
The objective of the essay competition was to identify how mentoring
could be a solution for Sustainable Growth and Development for
Youths, the role of Mentoring in National Development and the
importance of Mentoring as an aid to character development and good
leadership
Dignitaries at the event were Amb. Joe Keshi, Permanent Secretary
Foreign Affairs, Ayo Ajayeoba Country Director Oxfam UK,
representative from the Permanent Secretary Civil Service
Commission, Dr. Lanre Adebayo, Director National Orientation Agency
(NOA),representative from Omatek Computers, representative from Fin
Bank, Representative from National University Commission (NUC) and
many others.
A total of 117 entries were received from 23 States in Nigeria. Most
of the essays were rich in content and were very creative in their
presentations and were judged on Originality, coherence,
adherence to guideline, added value, consistency, honest
presentation, research facts and opinions, clarity and organization
of expression in relation to mentoring.
The Essay competition was sponsored by Omatek Computers, Fin Bank
Plc and Alpha Jewelries.
