1 OMATEK LAPTOP, DESKTOP COMPUTER, DVD
PLAYER AND CASH PRIZES GRABBED IN THE AFRIGROWTH NATIONAL ESSAY
COMPETITION
“As a teacher I have longed to have a computer in order to be
able to teach my students effectively, I prayed to God and now he
has answered my prayers”- Alebiosu Olukayode – First prize
winner of the AfriGrowth Essay Competition.
The launch of the AfriGrowth National Essay Competition on the 14th
of June 2007 with the support of Omatek Computers, Ganiyat
International and Havilla Group UK saw 122 entries from young people
between the ages of 18-25 from different states of the federation
writing their way to win the three grand prizes of one Omatek
Laptop, Desktop Computer, DVD Player and Cash prizes of N50,000,
N35,000 and N15,000 going to the First, Second and Third winners
respectively.
Welcoming guests to the award presentation ceremony held at the
World Bank conference room in Abuja, Mrs. Dayo Keshi AfriGrowth
Foundations’ President organizers of the National Essay contest
explained that the purpose of the contest was to “engage youths
in the mentoring process by sharing their experiences and by
identifying who their role models are in the Nigerian society.
Furthermore, their input will also assist AfriGrowth in improving on
its Youth Mentoring program”.
Speaking in behalf of the selection committee, Mr. Ajibola noted
“getting the three finalists was a heinous task as all the entries
were stimulating, refreshing and of high quality however in
competitions such as this a winner must and has emerged”.
In their words of wisdom to Alebiosu Kayode, Owolana
Oluwatobi Victoria and Ohizu Julian Chinwendu, first,
second and third prize winners of the National Essay competition,
Ambassador Joe Keshi, a permanent secretary in the Cabinet
Secretariat stated that “those whom you have identified as your
role models got to the stage they are now due to hard work, I am
sure that your essays were adjudged the best due to your hard work,
discipline, knowledge, confidence and personal ability”. Adding
his voice of wisdom, Dr. Chudi Okafor of the World Bank opined
“commitment, perseverance and hard work will make youths to be who
they want to be in life, there is the need to re-orientate the
Youths to make positive changes in the Society, I encourage young
people to continue to read and expand their scope and horizon”.
Prizes awarded to the three finalists are as follows: Alebiosu
Olukayode grand prize of Laptop and fifty thousand naira cash
(#50,000), Owolana Oluwatobi Victoria Desktop computer and
thirty five thousand naira cash (#35,000), Ohizu Julian Chinwendu
DVD player and fifteen thousand naira cash (#15,000).
In their separate remarks, the winners expressed their gratitude to
AfriGrowth Foundation for organizing the contest and to Omatek
Computers for donating the Laptop, Desktop and DVD player.
